Mine Ventilation and Intake Air Heating

We develop main and auxiliary fan installations, intake air heating systems and ventilation ducts to match the calculated airflow required to ventilate the mine and the aerodynamic characteristics of its ventilation network.

Scope of work

  • Aerodynamic selection of main and auxiliary fan installations, including operating points, control ranges and changes in ventilation network resistance as mining advances.
  • Comparison of fans and installation layouts, variable-speed control, duty and standby equipment, switching arrangements and airflow reversal.
  • Design of intake air heating systems, including heaters, heat sources, heating demand and standby capacity for the mine's operating and climatic conditions.
  • Comparison of heat supply options and their capital and operating costs at the feasibility stage.
  • Layouts for fan and heating installations, buildings, ventilation ducts and the air intake path, with access for inspection and maintenance.
  • Power supply and automation, including monitoring of airflow, temperature and equipment status and transmission of operating data to the control room.
  • Coordination of ventilation operating modes, equipment redundancy and the requirements for reversing the mine airflow.

What we deliver

  • Feasibility studies or engineering concepts comparing ventilation and air heating alternatives.
  • Fan and heater selection calculations, layouts and coordinated design documentation for the agreed stage.
  • Detailed drawings and specifications for structures, equipment, electrical systems and controls within the assignment.
